Welcome to the ‘Migrants and Refugees as Re-Builders’ initiative. This was a three-year Erasmus+ project to improve the training of migrants and refugees through adult education.
Migrants and Refugees as Re-Builders (KA2 Cross-borders Intercultural and Societal Entrepreneurs) was a partnership of organisations from the UK, Turkey, Sweden, and Spain who developed innovative training responses to support migrants. Refugees and internally displaced people from the Horn of Africa, the Middle East, Magreb and Latin America. The project aimed to support adult educators of migrants and refugees in settling into their new communities, re-building their lives, and eventually contributing to the development of their home countries.

The Competence Assessment Framework is a vital open-source document for adult educators who wish to assess their teaching competencies. We are aware that working with migrants and refugees within the educational and training sector on a daily basis challenges the typical relationship between ‘teacher and student’. We believe there is a need to delve deep into migrants’ and refugees’ own experience to discover how to conduct the relationship. This self-assessment framework is linked directly to the curriculum for Migrants and Refugees as Re-Builders which we designed in the first stage of this Erasmus+ project. The framework offers various tools to choose from as a means of customizing the assessment required in formal, non-formal and informal educational settings.

The social micro-indicators for inclusion and economic integration aim to assess the scope and capacity of adult educators and peers to act and transform community processes together, within their own communities, and if possible within their own countries of origin. We have had two key references in doing this: the MIPEX (Migrant Integration Policy Index) which, through 167 indicators, evaluates and measures the integration policies of more than 30 European countries; and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Indicators for the Agenda 2030.
