Last week the head of our Sustainable Communities programme, Amina Khalid, visited the new Tarling Road Community Hub in North London. It was a great visit and we are excited about the prospects of future collaboration. Following the visit Amina reported back:
The visit to the Tarling Road Community Hub which is home to a number of local community groups, including the Somali Bravanese Welfare Association (SBWA) went very well. It used to be called The Al-Rahma Islamic Centre until it was burnt to the ground in 2013 by extremists and the letters EDL (English Defence League) were found scrawled on the wrecked building.
The Somali Bravanese community (SBWA) has been an important part of the local community for over 20 years thanks to theĀ inspiration and leadership of it’s founder and ChairmainĀ Mr Abubakar Ali. It was truly inspiring to meet Abubakar and hear of the ways in which the Muslim, Jewish and other communities came together to restore faith, trust and rebuild a new Community Hub where all nationalities and faiths can come together in peace and harmony.
