On Saturday 30th July, International Friendship Day, Initiatives of Change UK and Creators of Peace UK hosted a President’s Day in honour of Amina Dikedi-Ajakaiye, who has just stepped down after six years as the Creators of Peace’s International President.
The day was celebrated with a hybrid event, hosting people in various global locations. People tuned in online everywhere, from Australia and Nepal, to Romania, Uganda and more! All listened to Amina and a board of panellists discuss friendship and hear about Amina’s time heading up the Creators of Peace initiative. Those who attended in person, at our collaboration space in London, experienced a delicious lunch with various cuisines and dishes brought in from around the world.
Following lunch, craft tables were set up. Amazing stations offering workshops in pom-pom making, Chinese calligraphy, friendship bracelets, handwritten letters, and crafting table raising money for Ukraine ran throughout the afternoon.

Elizabeth Laskar and Miranda Shaw, Co-Heads of Creator’s of Peace UK, shared a message of thanks to everyone who attended: “This event marked one of the first large events held back in Greencoat place after Covid-19 shut the world down in 2020. It was incredible to see the engagement and connections being formed around the room, and online, and we want to say a huge thank you to those women who dedicated their time to running workshop sessions and to all of the wonderful women who attended from across our network.”
A participant who joined us online stated: “Being able to join via Zoom was the next best thing to actually being there. I really felt the connection between everyone in attendance.”
