Initiatives of Change’s Sustainable Communities Programme is pleased to announce an exciting new partnership and collaboration with Hackney Council through the commitment and inspiration of The Speaker, Councillor Michael Desmond.
Together with the Speaker’s Office we will be hosting a Peace art exhibition in early 2022 with the goal of bringing together prominent local and global artists from around the world. We will have a special focus on displaying work by artists from the local community and from conflict zones internationally, such as Israel and Palestine, Ukraine and Russia, and India and Pakistan. Though all of these artists have had dramatically different experiences, their work will be united by a desire to build bridges and promote peace and reconciliation.
The exhibition will be on display for a limited period in early 2022, we will host a launch event which will hear from some of the artists and local peacemakers. This will be followed by a drinks reception, where we hope guests will be moved by the artwork to consider and discuss the challenges facing our global community, in a new light. Together we hope to create a space where people can come together to promote peaceful coexistence, tolerance, mutual respect and celebrate our common humanity through the arts.
In light of this we are asking for your kind support in helping us to raise £2000. These funds will be used to hire a curator for the exhibition, who will engage a diverse array of artists and support promising creatives, from Hackney and around the world. If you would like to make a donation, please visit our fundraising page: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/peaceexhibition. We appreciate any support you can offer and we hope to see you at the launch event in early 2022.
