The headline for a major article in the Newbury Weekly News on 28 March was ‘Terrorism will never keep us apart’. The subheading was ‘Local community shows its support for Newbury Muslims in the wake of the shootings in Christchurch, New Zealand’. Howard and Maria Grace, with a dozen others, displayed solidarity with local Muslims as they arrived at the mosque for Friday prayers on 22 March. This was deeply appreciated, and the group were invited in for the end of prayers. Placards held by them read: ‘In Friendship we Stand with you Against Hate’ and ‘In Solidarity with our Muslim Brothers and Sisters’.
At the end of prayers Imam Mobasshir Mushtaq said, ‘We really appreciate you coming here and showing solidarity at this time of sorrow.’
